In the Christian literary tradition, Lot's wife was turned to salt for daring to look backwards towards the spectacle of personal and collective trauma. In this reflective roundable, the scholars and artists affiliated with "This Is What I Want" will attempt to look backwards over the events of the festival and the trans-historical milieu into which it is nestled. Why is the act of looking so central to our species and its systems of control? Whom and how does it serve as a tool? Is it possible to reject, reflect, refract, resist, return, repeat or repeal the gaze? How many forms of gazing might there be?
Join us for a 90 minute moderated artist/scholar conversation with the audience.
We invite you to experience your desire as a presence. How does gaze and intimacy function in your life?
In THE DOLLHOUSE, experience The Gaze(s) and desire through a night of site-specific, immersive performance. Enter the old porn theater. Undress (if you'd like). Sip a cocktail. Admire art on the walls. Have your body story danced. Happen upon strange behavior. Experience ‘Pillow Talk', ‘Opt-out' and ‘Tunneling'. Bathe in the light of healing candles. Slow dance. Sit in the cinema and watch mermaids. Talk with your friends. Descend into the basement and find some way home. Dance it out with us to the DJ.
Desire is calling. Come gaze like nobody is watching.
Lets thrive, and lets make the conversation get bigger
